Running Ultima VII: The Black Gate/Serpent Isle in Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 Using DOSBox by Ganesh (26 KB)

Exult - Ultima VII Game Engine (Ext. Link)
This free source program runs Ultima VII beautifully in modern operating systems. However, do note that this program still has some bugs as of v1.2, and is personally recommended to try using the above guide to play in DOS.
Exult PSP - Ultima VII Game Engine (Ext. Link)
As the title says, play Ultima VII in PSP. There are some game stopping bugs though, so do read the readme file.
DOSBox - MS-DOS emulation (Ext. Link)
The best and my personally preferred way. This project is specially done to cater for those DOS games that can't be run in modern operating systems. EMS/UMB must be disabled to use this.
Type "MixerSet FM +350" in the console for better volume balance. Also use Sound Blaster as the Sound Blaster Pro in Install.Exe caused graphical glitches on mine. I would say it is 95% compatible, with minor graphical glitches. See the guide for more help.
This is the new utility for playing under Windows XP. Though not as speed efficient as U7Win9x, it is still faster than the Windows 2000 version. Instructions provided. Note that VDMSound is required to get the sound working.
This package is the complete upgrade solution for Win9x/ME/2000 users who want to play Ultima 7 without the need of a MSDOS boot diskette. It also patches the two games to make full use of the GM/GS capabilities of recent sound cards (i.e. : Soundblaster Live!). Using this in Windows 2000 requires a fast CPU.
This awesome new utility allows playing of U7BG/SI under a MS-DOS window (full-screen) in Win95/98. Best thing about this utility is, it allows you to use SBLive! Can be run under 2000 for powerful PCs.
This document explains how to run Ultima VII in Windows 2000/XP. Basically, you emulate Windows 95/98/DOS using a emulation software (VMWare, not free) and run Ultima from there. Note that technical expertise is a must.
Utility that installs a plug and play sound card in dos, so you don't have to set your own "set > blaster=etc" line in config.sys. For old sound cards (SBAWE64 and older). Addresses the "speech card initialisation failed" error. Thanks to Dale Toney.
If you want Ultima VII to work under Windows 95/98, this shareware program will slow it and even give sound. Instructions are provided in the Readme file inside.
Actual SoundFont Bank (2.90 MB)
With this SoundFont file, the sounds in the game will sound just as they are meant to be.
Targeted at people who do not know much about DOS, this document explains everything in detail to get Ultima VII running. Great website! Check it out!
This nifty zip file has all the utilities needed to run Ultima VII in normal speed. Includes MOUSE.EXE and MOSLO.EXE, both programs which help you. Fixes memory problems too. Not for Windows NT/XP users.
Memory-Efficient Mouse Drivers - Microsoft (14.3 KB) and Cute Mouse (37.9 KB)
These mouse drivers take very little memory.
Microsoft Mouse - 11K Conventional Memory (Microsoft)
Cute Mouse - 7K Conventional Memory (Nagy Daniel)
Upper Memory Manager (54.7 KB)
RDOSUMB. This has been an answer to many a Ultima Fan prayer. It lets programs use Upper Memory without enabling that "protected mode" which Ultima VII despises. Not for Windows NT/XP users.
Ultima Speed-Up Fix by Solrac (51.5 KB)
This Zip file tells you how to speed up Ultima VII if your computer is too slow for the game. Not that it does happen, I've just placed it here for convenience. Basically, it makes use of copying the whole game to RAM.
