Ever since JW's FLV Player became licenced as a Creative Commons Non-Commercial Licence, I have been searching for other free FLV players to play flash videos.
Here is what I have found:
Flowplayer is a promising alternative to JW player with CSS skinning, plug in support, play list support and streaming support with a more open licence. It is downloadable under the GPL licence allowing you to use it as many domains as you want.
The requirement is that you have to keep the logos inside, however you can remove them yourself as long as you provide a clear link to download the source code of your player.
Demo (v3.0.2):
For some reason in IE7, you need to click on the full screen button to see the whole video and then switch back if not only the top 1% will show.
flvplayer provides five different versions of the player depending on the features you need. It supports subtitles, CSS skins and external file configuration. Licensed under the Mozilla Public License 1.1. Supports playlists.
Demo (v1.6.0):
Jaris FLV player is licensed under GPL and LGPL. It provides basic functionality
Demo (v1.0):
- Keeps video Aspect Ratio
- Full screen Support
- Video Thumbnail
- Volume Control
- Seek Control
- Time Display
- Your own Logo
JW FLV Media Player has a free version that is only applicable to a site that adheres to the below conditions.
If your site is the rare one that falls out the category of not having ads, not for profit, not a CMS (that includes blogs) and you don't remove the right-click link, then this is the player for you.
Demo:
(unfortunately, my site doesn't qualify for the free licence for the latest version, hence you will need to see the demo at their site)
